Adding a dormer, addition or extension to your home is a great way to give your family the additional living space they need all while increasing the value of your home in New York. In cases where all you need is extra space for storage then a attached/detached garage or custom utility shed is the way to go.

A dormer, an addition and an extension are all similar in that they will give your home more living space but there are some differences between each. An extension involves adding to the existing first level on the front, back or sides of the house. An addition is when you build up rather than out and does not take any space from existing yard lines. A dormer is when we create a small room with a window that projects out vertically from the rest of the sloped roof. A dormer is the least expensive way to increase living space.
Although many factors may affect the completion time of a second-floor addition like, permit applications, weather, material availability and changes made to the plans, the typical 1,000 SqFt second floor will take between 4 to 10 months.
The permitting process varies based on municipality and scope of work. Permit processes can range any where from 1 to 3 months in most cases.
